With a diverse music career spanning over twenty years, music director, singer, songwriter and keyboardist B.J. Collins has toured all over the United States, Europe and China. Among B.J.’s career highlights are countless performances with doo-wop legends, The Marcels, and America’s premier variety show band, Rick K. and the Allnighters. He has been recognized as one of the city’s best blues and country keyboardists by local publications, and he was a finalist for “Best Keyboard Player” in the 2006 International Online Music Awards.
As a songwriter, B.J. fronts a Christian music ministry he founded in 1996 called “70×7,” and his songs have been downloaded over three million times from online music distribution sites like Mp3.com. Several of his songs have hit #1 on the Internet’s Christian music charts, and he has performed at the world’s largest Christian music festival, “Creation.”
B.J.’s album credits include session work with national touring artists, most notably, that Christian parody band, “ApologetiX.” B.J. also writes, performs, and produces instrumental electronica music under the name “O’Coileain.” He and his son, Bo, provide professional live sound reinforcement and DJ services under the name “Young Dog Sound.” B.J. has also produced radio advertising spots and music cd’s for other local artists in his studio.
Currently, B.J. is the Saturday night worship leader at Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church in Elizabeth, PA. His personal repertoire of Christian hymns, contemporary choruses, and CCM songs numbers well over three hundred titles. Worship time on Saturday nights at CHCUMC is 6:00 p.m… On Sunday evenings, B.J. works with Evangelist Peter Kusko, providing worship music for “An Evening With Jesus” at churches throughout the Pittsburgh area beginning at 7:00 p.m… He can also be seen performing both in concert and in the worship setting with “70×7.” B.J. is also the music director for Pittsburgh’s favorite oldies group, “The Elmonics.”
